In short

The Pattern Maker Lead is responsible for managing the team responsible for the fit and construction of garments for all product categories throughout the On Running Apparel team.

It is the responsibility of the Pattern Maker Lead to deliver high-quality products in alignment with the brand standards and our athlete’s expectations for aesthetic, quality and fit. The Pattern Maker Lead will create a template on how to best conduct fittings across the apparel team, determine POM (point of measurements) and grading templates, and advise and educate the cross functional team in all matters related to fit, sizing, 3D technology in order to deliver world class, premium products.

Your Mission

  • Develop fit protocol for the entire org with your expert technical knowledge to achieve proper fit aesthetic and support development comments to improve the garment to match the specification, construction, and overall appearance. 

  • Advise the team on how to effectively implement all fit changes and -pattern adjustment information to a technical package/comments that will easily understood by our T1 suppliers (factories).

  • Develop block pattern & technical specifications alongside your team. Build technical specifications including technical illustration, construction details/seam specification and measurement spec.

  • Create and maintain fit protocol/fit matrix for all inline, Lightning (On athletes), Olympics, Tennis, and other special projects/collabs.

  • Partner closely cross-functionally with the leaders from the Development, Design, Product Management/Merchandising, and Sourcing teams.

  • Actively participate in milestone development meetings to provide insight on fit/pattern specifications and product history.

  • Communicate with overseas vendors for high level tech pack and sample development questions; Problem solve in collaboration with cross functional teams on patterns, construction, and techniques to improve fit, balance and overall quality of garment.

  • Lead your team in developing style specific blocks in PLM system with measurement sets and grade rules.

  • Review specifications and grade to ensure relevancy in the marketplace and to the consumer.

  • Proactively provide update opportunities and recommendations based on our product direction. 

  • Train and mentor new hires and existing team mates alike by sharing your vast experience, expert knowledge, and best practices from other competing world leaders in activewear.

Your story

  • Bachelor's Degree in Apparel, Construction or Textiles, or equivalent industry experience.

  • 8+ years apparel pattern design experience, 5+ years of experience working in the athletic, sportswear or outdoor environment, 3+ years of experience managing a team of pattern makers.

  • Deep experience working closely with leadership of apparel product design, technical design, and product development teams.

  • Strong knowledge of physical apparel manufacturing/construction techniques.

  • Reliable experience on draping, pattern-making, cutting & stitching.

  • Expert level knowledge of garment fit, balance, grading, and tolerances.

  • Experience with using 3D apparel design software's eg. Browzwear, CLO3D, Style3D, or other similar solutions.

  • Able to leverage 3D software to create and revise 3D apparel.

  • Experience with navigating a PLM system, ideally Centric.

  • Experience with a pattern CAD tools (Gerber, Lectra, Assyst etc.)

  • Excellent problem solving, creative thinking, and strategy-focused skills on technical development of Men’s and Women’s apparel.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact and build collaborative cross-functional relationships, and influence others on large scale Fit, Sizing, and 3D initiatives.

  • Curious and research-oriented mindset.

  • Empathetic, patient, and optimistic mindset; open to change and ambiguity within the unpredictable apparel industry.

About the Team

In this role, you will collaborate with the Development, Design, Materials, Sourcing, and Product Management (Merch) teams to translate the product design intent and style vision into a consistent fit, quality, and execution level by leading the team responsible for our product’s technical specifications on fit, sizing, and commercialization requirements.
