Isolated Together: Keeping The On Team Running

Necessity is the mother of invention, but how do you keep an international company with team members all over the globe informed and updated during the COVID-19 pandemic? Here are some of the initiatives we’ve rolled out to try and keep our team together.

May OnBoarding Crew

As outlined in On Adapts: The Rise of V_ROC, the On team has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic like only the On team can.

But digital fitness classes and raising money are just part of our approach when it comes to staying informed and together. Whether it’s virtual coffee mornings and Onboardings, weekly Town Halls or regular feel-good (e-)news updates, we do what we can to keep spirits and engagement high across the Oniverse.

Read on for a simplified look at some of the creative and fun initiatives we’ve rolled out to help keep On running during these difficult times.

Information is Key

Our US-based PR team pens a daily e-newsletter, ‘The Flyer,’ packing it full of bite-sized updates and good-news stories, as well as stunning artwork (as you can see below) and even film and book recommendations from around the Oniverse and beyond. One team member has even created a weekly Never Not On podcast.

A New Approach to New Starters

In another first for On, April 2020 saw us host a Virtual Onboarding session where we digitally welcomed more than 40 new starters from all over the world.

Usually, new team members would fly to Zurich for an ‘in-person’ Onboarding and to be introduced to life at On. But, given the travel restrictions, this was not possible. Happily, thanks to our IT wizards and the efforts of our indefatigable Learning and Development Team, we were able to provide (almost) the same experience with informative talks and interactive activities all designed to make the transition to working at On easier.

As always, team members from across the company joined in to help present their teams and explain their role within the On family, as well as to welcome our new starters in virtual hangouts. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?

Sticking Together

Speaking of teamwork, we’ve encouraged everybody at On to find their unique way of maintaining contact with each other as much as possible. Virtual walks, lunches, games, the list goes on.

Talent Attraction wakes each other up with virtual coffees every morning, while the sweet-toothed Demand Planning team enjoys regular ice cream breaks. Our Controllers have their own e-newspaper, creatively titled ‘The Daily Controller,’ where they outline their schedule for the day in the form of a catchy headline. Design have an open call on the go so people can dial-in whenever they feel like having a chat.

On a lighter note, some of our US team have been collaborating using social media to create dance videos. Our Content team ends their week with virtual drinks, animal quizzes and games. The ECOM, Finance and Talent teams also enjoy drinks at the end of the week. In fact, most of our teams still get together this way. Oh, and most people are using a lot of Giphys.

If you’d like to join our team and think you’ve got the skills to make an impact, we’d love to hear from you. So make sure you visit the Careers and Culture section on our website.
